Edward’s practice is evenly split between regulatory- related matters and complex commercial disputes.
Edward is primarily known for his specialist regulatory practice, with a focus on matters concerning alleged market misconduct in Hong Kong’s thriving capital market. He is regularly instructed to handle complex investigations involving alleged ramp and dump schemes, serious or willful breaches of the Listing Code, orchestrated initial public offerings, insider dealing and other forms of market misconduct covered under Part VIII of the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571). Edward has handled over 30 such investigations since 2018.
Edward’s regulatory practice also extends to white collar criminal matters, particularly those concerning dealings in securities or other alleged criminal conduct arising from the capital market. He recently represented the ex-Chief Executive Officer of Convoy Global Holdings in the criminal trial stemming from a joint investigation by the Securities and Futures Commission and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (led by Selwyn Yu SC and with Mr. Tony Chow), with the appeal of the matter to be heard in early-2024 (led by Mr. Derek Chan SC and with Mr. Tony Chow and Mr. Sik Chee Ching).
He also regularly acts for companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and/or its directors in relation to regulatory investigations by the Securities and Futures Commission or the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, including allegations of misconduct or questions of fitness and properness.
Aside from his regulatory practice, Edward also maintains an active civil practice and is regularly instructed as advocate in complex commercial disputes. Edward has appeared at all levels of Court, both as sole counsel and junior counsel, and is capable of working alone or as part of a larger team of Counsel. He also has an active arbitration practice, having conducted arbitrations (both as sole counsel and junior counsel) administrated by the HKIAC and SIAC.
Edward is currently instructed as sole counsel in the civil litigation stemming from the liquidation of the Hsin Chong Group, and the numerous civil litigations relating to the affairs of the Convoy Group since its investigation by the Securities and Futures Commission and the ICAC. Edward is also currently involved in two civil actions commenced by the Securities and Futures Commission (as Petitioner) pursuant to section 214 of the Securities and Futures Ordinance against the directors of two companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The conviction was successfully overturned (Led by Derek Chan S.C.).
• Securities and Futures Commission v Choi Chi Kin Calvin, SFAT 4 of 2022 - Appeal against decision by the Securities and Futures Commission to take disciplinary action and an application for the hearing to be heard in camera (as sole counsel).
• Convoy Collateral Limited v Cho Kwai Chee & Others, HCA 399/2018 - Acting for the 14th defendant, the ex-Chief Executive Officer of Convoy, in a claim for breach of fiduciary duties, dishonest assistance and unlawful means conspiracy (as sole counsel).
• Securities and Futures Commission v Teamway International Group Holdings Limited & Others, HCMP 1830 of 2022 - Acting for the 8th Respondent in a SFC petition issued pursuant to s214 of the Securities and Futures Ordinance on allegations of misfeasance, defalcation and other breaches of fiduciary duties (as sole counsel).
• HKSAR v Mak Kwong-yiu (D1) and three others (D2-D4) DCCC 657/2019, [2021] HKDC 1370 - Criminal trial stemming from the joint investigation by the Securities and Futures Commission and the ICAC against Convoy, acted for the ex-Chief Executive Officer of Convoy for charges of conspiracy to defraud (led by Selwyn Yu SC).
• Securities and Futures Commission v Finger Tango Inc. & Others, HCMP 1725 of 2023 - Acting for the Respondent in a SFC petition issued pursuant to s214 of the Securities and Futures Ordinance on allegations of misfeasance, defalcation and other breaches of fiduciary duties (as sole counsel).
• Hsin Chong Group Holdings Limited (In Liquidation) v. Lin Zhuo Yan & 33 Others, HCA 1661/2019 - Representing the ex-Audit Committee chairman of Hsin Chong Group Holdings Limited (prior to its liquidation) on allegations of inter alia breach of fiduciary duties as a director (as sole counsel).
• Chow Steel Industries Public Company Limited & Others v. Ko Sung & Others, HCMP 2711/2017 - Represented a company listed on the Thailand Stock Exchange in successfully obtaining a Mareva injunction based on the Court’s Chabra jurisdiction in the sum of HK$160,000,000.00 (appeared as sole advocate at the ex parte stage and led by Mr. Chua Guan Hock S.C. at the inter partes stage).
• Re Luen Ford Industrial Company Limited, [2018] 3 HKLRD 718 - Represented the Respondent company in successfully resisting a petition to wind-up the Respondent on the basis of dishonoured cheques paid by the Respondent to its previous solicitors. The case concerns the circumstances under which a solicitor may sue on a bill of exchange given to a solicitor to settle a liability for costs (led by Mr. Clifford Smith S.C.).
• AHXT Co. Ltd. v. Freeway Finance Co. Ltd., [2020] 4 HKLRD 133 - Represented the Plaintiff in its successful claim against the Defendant on the basis of unjust enrichment in relation to a fraud perpetrated by a fraudster against both the Plaintiff and the Defendant (with Ryan Chan).
• AB Club Limited & 4 Others v. Chan Yin Ki Cubie &10 Others, HCA 1644/2020 - Represented the Defendants in successfully resisting an application by the Plaintiffs (the Ashton Hawks group of companies) for a Springboard injunction to restrict the Defendants from carrying on a competing business through the Swan Knights group of companies (with Ryan Chan)
• Tan Choo Pin & Ors v Tan Choo Suan & Others, HCAP 3/2021 - Acting as sole counsel for the Defendants in a highly contentious probate proceedings regarding the validity of two wills, concerning the estate of a Singaporean tycoon. The present proceedings concern the dispute arising from the Singaporean decision of Tan Chin Hoon and others v Tan Choo Suan (in her personal capacity and as executrix of the estate of Tan Kiam Toen, deceased) & Ors [2015] SGHC 306.
